Skylines were never federalized for use in the U.S. Thats it. It has nothing to do with them being too fast. In all honesty, stock, they aren't all that quick.

And contrary to what you may hear, you can't spend money to get it modified to be legal here. Motorex used to do that but they are no longer in business. They cut some corners and now some of the cars that they modified are not legal anymore.

And just because this irritates me, I'll explain this one again. When you say Skylines, you mean GT-R's. There is a huge difference between a base model Skyline and a Skyline GT-R. You wouldn't want a base model Skyline.

Some good points raised. A little known Skyline in the US is the JDM only GTS-t. This sedan or coupe has a RB20 turbo, easily can take RB25/ RB30 heads or transplants, and is available, road legal, here starting at $1000. Most RWD althought the GTS4-t is AWD. All JDM's are RHD, although Canada has a few floating around. Great cars, but a 300ZX is better looking, and the TTs perform real well.

Check out this auction below, dozens of Skylines for sale in NZ.

As said it is legal to have a Skyline in the US i hate the i know better attitude with this answer everytime its mentioned.

As i have mentioned there are a few US members of the Skylineowners.com forum and they have and know owners In the US with r32's r33 and r34's etc.

And these are street legal.

Good luck if you get one no matter what folks say iam on my second and can imagine getting any other car.there great fun and with headturning looks .And well worth any money.

Also dont knock other models in the Skyline range the GTR is the popular model but the other range is just as tuneable and fast also. There is the non turbo single cam and twin cam models the single and double turbos. Also rwd awd models.

These also include 2.0l.20l turbos,2.5l.2.5l turbos,2.6l twin turboed and the 3.0l and 2.8l bored.Eariler models had 1.6l1.8l etc engines.

As for which states you will have to ask other owners for advice in the US.

Nissan never imported the car to the U.S. so you have to go through a lot to get one here. I know a guy with an R34 GTR SpecV. The only importer i know of is a company here in So. California that brings them in. From what I've been told by the three owners I've talked to, expect to pay around $90,000 for one. $65,000 would be nice until you add in smog devices, customs cost, DOT fees, etc. Some have been converted to LHD but most remain RHD.

Nissan Skylines are awesome it's just that they are too fast for the streets

I dont really know but they waste lots of gas and america doesn't want to have those cars in the US and everybody who loves skylines just hates it that those cars aren't in us.

no its not, write a $65,000 check to skyline imports and youll get a GT-R33 or R34 from texas or flordia. but when u put insurance on it say "1998 nissan 240sx"

its not the states that say u cant have the car its the government...if u where to buy a skyline from euro u would have to turn it to American specs which means governor for the speed changing all windows, exhaust for emissions, suspension so on and so on...so u buy the car over in euro for like 45k usd (just a guess really not sure on price) u would more then likely have to put another 20 to 30k in it to drive it here and that's with shipping it over from there
