Trucks often times tow trailers because American trailers have 2 circuit lighting. With two filament bulbs for brake turn-signals and running lights. Most japan and Europe cars have separate brake and turn and running lights for a total of three circuits each side. Someone may have installed a small box that converts 3 to 2 wire that box may have failed. Another thing I see a lot is a single filament bulb in a dual filament socket. Running parking lamps and brake lamp are different wattage. So at dusk or dark turn on the lights walk around the light that is brighter than the other side or dim may be where you want to start looking remember front turn signals have running lights too.

This is a classic I have seen several times. It is usually caused by nothing more complex than a wrong bulb being fitted. If you have a combined 5w/21w stop-and-tail lamp bulb that is replaced with a single filliment bulb, the centre (only) contact shorts the tail and brake light contacts at the light fitting causing a feedback into the "parking light" circuit when the brake lights are activated.

Here is what happens, the filament in the older type bulbs burns out and sometimes falls across and grounds the circuit, making other lights actually come on! I seen this before, that is why it is so interesting.

You have a bad ground at one of the bulbs. Take the bulbs out and polish the basses of the lamps as a start.

Hi this is more likely a poor earth on the light cluster as it is an old truck and the metal moth must be well in place now. so time to get the wire brush out and watch the fitting fall apart before your very eyes.

brake lights and parking lights are on two different circuits. you have a wiring issue somewhere
