My '07 Sentra's AC just stopped blowing cold air. I took it to my mechanic whose fixed minor things on this car and my family's other cars with no problems. But he said take it to the dealership because Nissan AC systems are so complicated he didn't think he could fix it correctly. Has anyone heard this before? Are Nissan's AC system inherently more difficult to fix? Generally I would rather go to a small shop than a dealership but if it really is that complicated I will.

If you have extended warranty go back to the dealership. 2007 Sentra are not difficult to diagnosis most times I find a rock hit on the condenser (not warranty) freon leaking in front of the radiator and low system refrigerant. Independant shops like fixing year model and makes they are confortable working on. Nissan dealership repair are warrantied for 12 months 12,000 miles nation wide.

Nissan has some quirky compressors, but most of the A/C operation is pretty standard. Perhaps your mechanic is worried about getting the correct parts; an actual dealership managed to order the wrong compressor for my Infiniti - they changed 'em in mid-model year.

The answer can be complicated. If you think your compressor has stopped working, simply buy a new compressor clutch and replace it. Go to www.thechillman.com or search for compressor clutch on ebay. You're AC cabin filter also could be clogged. Look for it under the passenger side dash and clean it out.

Take it to another shop, its hard to believe an AC system can be that complicated. Sounds like your mechanic just doesnt know how to fix it.
